An Impressive Mid 19th Century Colonial Oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman merchant.c.1850. Sat with a letter,inscribed 'To Mr Pilling.....'. With a ring to his ear, his merchant house in the background. Very well painted. In the original simulated rosewood and gilt mounted frame. Measures 41" x 46.5"long x 3.5"deep, 31" x 36"long canvas.
