Great 17th century religious painting, Ecce Homo
Splendid 17th century Italian painting. Oil artwork on canvas depicting an Ecce Homo of great strength and drama. Ecce Homo is the phrase that Pontius Pilate, Roman governor of Judea, pronounced showing the people Jesus scourged. As if to say "here is the man, do you see that I have punished him?", but we know that this was not enough and he was crucified. In fact, we find Christ with his wrists tied and the crown of thorns, while a Roman centurion in armor opens his purple cloak to show it to the crowd. A painting of great pictorial quality, in particular the masterly use of the chiaroscuro technique to create plasticity, volume and thus sculpt Christ's powerful muscles with light should be highlighted. The imposing Caravaggesque figure stands out against a neutral background, giving depth to the composition and making the figures emerge from the darkness. Beautifully decorated 20th century wooden frame, with some signs of aging (see photo). Painting that has undergone restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in some places, overall in good state of conservation. Sight size H 126 x W 102 cm.
As each of our products will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and warranty and photographic documentation. Every item will be packed in a custom-made wooden box.
