Good Rare Set of 4 East Retford Yew Windsor Chairs
A Rare set of four low Windsor chairs in Yew Wood with Elm seats, most probably made in the North Nottinghamshire town of Retford, William Wheatland originally made chairs in Retford before his move to the newly established hamlet of Rockley, his chairs made in Retford have a scratched carved line around the top edge of the seats this practice was discontinued after the move to Rockley, also the shaped underarm support was generally used by chair makers in Retford and occasionally by the early makers in Rockley.
These chairs are in excellent condition with a lovely colour and patina, 2 chairs are slightly lower in height than the other two .
