We are offering for sale this beautifully executed still life Oil Painting by the artist Gerald Rowe, who has signed the painting verso, dated it 1950 and inscribed his birth date of 1924. The painting depicts an arrangement of fruit and flowers on a stone ledge, with a ladybird. The flowers are cream lilies, a red rose and some petunias, with some lily leaves. There is an apple and some cherries in the foreground.

Although we know that Gerald Rowe was born in 1924, there are a few of them in England alone and, as we cannot see the census records after 1911, we cannot tell which one is the artist. Therefore, we cannot offer any accurate biographical details about him.

We do know that he seemed to specialise in still life oil paintings, as there are a couple of records for his work on the market in recent years in this genre and there is one of his paintings in the Government Art Collection (No.2087) purchased from the artist in 1954.

The painting is framed in a 3" cream and gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Medium: Oils on canvas

Condition: Excellent. The canvas is clean and taut and there are no repairs, craquelure or stretcher marks. The frame is in very good condition.
