Description:
This is a superb quality antique George II English solid oak housekeeper’s cupboard, suitable either as a bedroom wardrobe or hallway cupboard, for hanging jackets and coats, circa 1750, in excellent original condition. The cupboard boasts an elegant protruding canopy above a solid boarded top. The cupboard is divided into two sections the top section comprises a cupboard with two lovely arcadian fielded panel doors the interior furnished with a later hanging rail and 14 original oak wooden hanging hooks. The left-hand door to the cupboard retains its original rotating block (to secure the door closed). Both doors also retain their original brass knobs and keyhole escutcheons. The bottom section of the cupboard features a bank of three faux drawers above three working drawers. The drawers are constructed with butt joints and are oak lined. They also feature moulded fronts and retain their original brass swan neck handles. The cupboard stands on the original block feet. The cupboard has good proportions, which makes it a sought-after size it was designed to fit into farmhouses with low ceilings. The cupboard dismantles into two sections for easy transport and access into the house.
The cupboard boasts a warm rich colour. As it displays the original polish it has a fantastic patination this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning it has received.

All doors and hinges are in good working order they close comfortably. The doors retain the original brass knobs and escutcheons. The drawers run smoothly, close flush to the frame and retain their original brass swan neck handles. The block feet and backboards are also original. The cupboard has been fitted with a later wooden hanging rail, in order to hold coat hangers, in order to be used as a wardrobe (the hanging rail can be removed if requested). The cupboard boasts its original polish and patination, therefore displaying a stunning colour. The item is solid in joint and stands firm on the ground (it does not wobble).
