Georgian Mahogany And Oak Corner Cupboard
This is a very clean period hanging corner cabinet. It is Georgian, dating to the reign of George III around 1790. The corner cupboard is elegantly simple in design like all Georgian antique furniture. It has a shaped cornice above in oak and two curved oak doors cross banded in mahogany. The colour is wonderful. The original brass hinges have a lot of shape bordering on the gothic as does the decorative escutcheons. It retains its original key.
The interior is fitted with shelves and three pretty drawers to the bottom.
I love period hanging corner cupboards. They are so inexpensive at the moment and they make wonderful drinks cabinets.
The condition of this period corner cupboard is good, with no sign of damage or worm. This is a particularly elegant cupboard. The oak is well polished and rich. (Oak corner cupboards from the period can be a bit dark and lowering!) There is something wonderfully unfussy and manly to the simplicity of the design. A good thing.
The Georgian corner cabinet is 41 inches high and 28 inches wide and it runs along the wall to the point of the corner for 18 inches on both sides.
