This is a good quality period antique George III English elm country armchair, circa 1770, in good original condition, originating from the county of Shropshire. Having been constructed from elm, instead of oak, makes it slightly more unusual and means it boasts a stunning warm colour with a beautiful grain configuration. The chair boasts a flat crest rail, with a raised central pediment, over a broad shaped pierced central back splat, which connects to solid elm seat. The back is supported by elegant down swept arms on raised block supports. The chair has been constructed in the traditional manner, incorporating a pegged mortise and tenon construction method and it sits on straight legs, which are united by connecting bar shaped stretchers for additional support.
The chair features a rich dark brown elm colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the bedroom, living room, dining or hallway. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
