George III Elm Gainsborough Armchair
Circa 1780, George III elm Gainsborough armchair. The chair is upholstered in gros point depicting various flowers and leaves. The colours are still quite vibrant. The back has a shaped top, and from it come the two arms which have a concave solid section at the front which joins to the large stuffover seat. Beneath the seat there are square legs which are slightly outswept at the back, united by an H stretcher, finishing on the original cast brass squat castors. Generous proportions and very stylish.
