retro mid century modern large pallet knife oil painting of a snow scene painted on board by the British listed artist George Deakins 1911-1982 the painting is signed by the artist bottom right and dated 1974,very large and boldly painted in vivid retro bright colours very confidently painted in a strong flowing impasto style typical of deakins use of fluid paint applied with a knife.
The painting is framed in the original period frame and has a full art and exhibitions biography history of the artist to a label fixed to the back board with a artists studio label.
The condition of the painting is excellent the painting being framed ready to hang.
George Deakins began painting to relive boredom whilst serving in the royal navy in world war 2 his first sale was whilst he exhibited in the Scottish Royal academy in the 1940s he has exhibited his paintings around the world in many one man shows including London galleries and by request by the Paris Salon.
After retiring from the navy he settled in Dunster Somerset England where he opened a painting studio he and his art were the subject of a BBC TV documentary in the 1970s.
