Gaspar Camps set of Original 1920s Art Deco Prints
We are offering this lovely, evocative, original set of 3 1920s prints by the Spanish artist and illustrator Gaspar Camps. The prints are signed within the plate. The first print is of a young woman in a white dress, holding a Japanese parasol. The second shows aq young lady with a 1920s bob, wearing a yellow dress and a large hat decorated with peacock feathers, holding a pekingese dog. The third depicts another young lady with dark hair styled in a bob, with a Spanish mantilla comb in her hair, wearing a brightly coloured shawl with a very long fringe, over her pale dress.
Gaspar Camps was born in Igualada in Spain in 1874. He was a painter, designer and illustrator who embraced the art nouveau movement at the end of the 19th Century. He was a pupil of Bougeureau, Laurens and Constant in Paris and was much influenced by Alphonse Mucha, given this influence, he was known as the Catalan Mucha.
After a period illustrating books and magazines in Catalonia, in 1905 he settled in Paris, moving to Toulouse, where he joined the printing firm of B. Siren. For more than 20 years as artistic director, he produced many posters, calendars, postcards and advertisements. With the advent of the Art Deco movement, he returned to Barcelona where a branch of B. Sirens had been opened and continued his work in similar vein with an Art Deco influence.
In the late 1930s he returned to painting and died in Barcelona in 1942.
The prints have been sympathetically remounted with double mounts in two-tone acid free mountcard with the inner mount in appropriate colours. The new frames are 1/2" black wooden frames in the Art Deco style.
Image size: 11 7/8" x 5 3/8" - 30.15cm x 13.15cm
Frame size: 17 1/2" x 10 3/4" - 44.45cm x 27.3cm
Condition: Generally very good with only a couple of patches of very faint discolouration on two of the prints. The mounts and frames are new.
