Perhaps conservatively we have given the date of this little horse , who stands 59cm high and measures 39cm from the tip of his nose to the rear of his rump, as 'circa 1800': but whatever his actual age he is well past his two hundredth birthday. (elsewhere on the web there is a near identical example on sale that is purported to have seen the light of day well before the French Revolution).
For the moment we have left him strictly as found and uncleaned so the photos will speak for themselves. As you will see there is some wood loss to the left side of his head and although he still has the remnants of his bridle and tack his hair tail and mane are long gone. A large amount of his original paint finish remains however and he stands firm and straight without any old age wobbles.
We love his statuesque quality coupled with an honest naivety that gives him huge decorative appeal.
As yet untreated for his, possibly historic, woodworm we would be only too please to thoroughly douse him with Rentokil or similar and give him a dust off before he leaves us for his new home.
