A truly exquisite and rare antique inkstand / desk set made in France around 1830. Made from fine polished brass, it has pink enamel and Mother of Pearl worked into the brass in a boulle manner. This process first developed by the French cabinetmaker, André-Charles Boulle (11 November 1642 – 28 February 1732, highly popular in nineteenth century Britain.

The wood used in exotic Rosewood with the interior lined in Kingwood. The box has a drawer to the underside and opens to in the centre to reveal a pen tray one side and a lidded compartment the other flanked either side by crystal inkwells with corked silver plated tops, with an engraved decoration they fit perfectly and appear to be original to the box.

The box is carried by a beautifully cast and polished brass handle.

The form is unusual and the colour highly prized and a rare fine and in exquisite condition a really rare and fine desk-top gem.
