Framed Pair Of Portrait Miniatures On Porcelain

This is a beautiful pair of 19th century portrait miniatures of young women on porcelain within their original oval gilt frames.
The woman dressed in white and wearing a veil is the 'Vestal Virgin' after the painting by Angelica Kauffman (Swiss 1741-1807).
We took apart the frame holding the other painting as the backing paper had disintegrated. The curved (in profile) glass was cleaned and the porcelain plaque photographed front and reverse. Part of a stamp is exposed beneath tape holding the plaque to the gold mount which should help to identify the maker. The exceptional quality of both paintings would suggest a German origin.
Dimensions: Frame - Height 20 cm x Width 18.7 cm x Depth 2.8 cm
Condition: The porcelain plaques are in excellent condition having been protected by the glass throughout the last 150 plus years. The frame containing the Vestal Virgin has been repaired on the outer edge between 5 & 6pm (see close-up photo). None of the beads are missing on the frames. The backing paper has been completely replaced on the woman with the fur trimmed dress and patched on the Vestal Virgin.
Postage & packing: £10 within the UK. Please contact us for a quote if you are an international buyer.
Please contact David by using the enquiry form or phoning 07931 370372 if you would like to see additional photographs or require more information.
