Framed Hand-Coloured Engraving of a Owl
Artist - Engraved by Johann Jacob Haid (1704-1767) after Peter Paillou (c.1720-c.1790)
Title - The Schort Eared Owl - Strix Capite Subaurito - Die Kurzohrichte Eule
Details - Antique engraving from the late eighteenth century. We believe it to be a plate from the book Vögel. Nach der neuen englischen Ausgabe des Herrn Thomas Pennant, in das Lateinische und Deutsche übersetzt, und mit einigen Anmerkungen begleitet von Christoph Gottlieb von Murr (1771-1778). The book was based on Thomas Pennant's The British Zoology. Hand-coloured. The engraving has been pasted on to a board. Mounted, glazed and framed in a more modern gilt frame.
Condition - Overall in good condition with good colours. The paper has some slight discolouration and some grubbiness and some wear and creasing around the edges. The frame has some scuffing, knocking, chipping and wear.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
