F. E. Jamieson Oil Middle Lake Killarney Ireland F E Jamieson Oil on Canvas Large %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
We are offering for sale this authentic, signed, lovely oil on canvas by the artist F. E. JAMIESON, who flourished between 1885 and 1940 and who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner with one of his pseudonyms P. Arnould. (We have seen this pseudonym normally written as Arnould Pienne, so this is a new variation). The artist has also entitled the painting on the reverse of the canvas, 'Middle Lake Killarney', as shown.

The Lakes of Killarney are a scenic attraction located in Killarney National Park near Killarney, County Kerry, in Ireland. They consist of three lakes - Lough Leane, Muckross Lake (also called Middle Lake) and Upper Lake. Muckross Lake, also known as Middle Lake or Torc Lake, is just south of Lough Leane. The two are separated by a small peninsula, crossed by a stone arched bridge called Brickeen Bridge. It is Ireland's deepest lake, reaching to 75 metres (246 ft) in parts. A paved hiking trail of approximately 10 km (6.2 mi) circles the lake.

F. E. Jamieson was a painter in oil and watercolour of highland landscapes and coastal scenes. (The work of this highly prolific artist is curious since the oils and watercolours have two quite distinctive styles and subject matter. The oil paintings are most frequently seen and these are highland landscapes or loch scenes - sometimes they appear to be signed with pseudonyms such as 'W. Richards' and 'Phil Hips' - the location is usually inscribed on the reverse. The watercolours are often coastal scenes with boats and figures on a shore, painted in a more traditional Victorian style, and possibly pre-date the oils. F. E. Jamieson's beach scenes were published as postcards around 1920 by G. Ajelli & Co. of London on a textured card to give the appearance of an oil. Jamieson is known to have travelled widely in the South of England between the wars selling his work but does not appear to have exhibited.) This quote in parentheses is taken from Jeremy Wood's book 'Hidden Talents - A Dictionary of Neglected Artists Working 1880-1950'.

Work by F. E. Jamieson can be seen at artprice.com (533 auction results), other auction sites and on google images, under F. E. Jamieson and his other pseudonyms as well as in our sold section, as we have sold over the last decade or so, over a hundred of his works.

Please note that on all these sites you will find F. E. Jamieson variously listed as Francis E. Jamieson, F.E.Jamieson, Frank E. Jamieson, Frederick E. Jamieson etc., although he is most commonly known as Francis. As there has never been a biography of him that gives birth and death dates or any other details about his life, it may well be that all these names are pseudonyms. You may also find some listings under his various pseudonyms of Arnould Pienne, Graham Williams, Aubrey Ramus, J. H. Boel, F. Walters, Joel Owen, Henry Cooper, C. McKinley, H. James, Stanley Graham, Montgomery Ansell, H. B. Davis, Stanley Penn, A. de Perrin, C.Frater, W. Richards, etc .
