Exceptional Painted Rosewood Card Table c.1860.
Unique mid 19th.c. painted rosewood fold over card table c.1860. Stands flush agaist a wall as an elegant console table or twist and open the top to reveal a circular red baize playing surface for four set within a rosewood border painted at each corner with playing cards and scrolling foliate forms. The painting continues around the sides with a variety of flower heads, whilst the closed top features a wonderful scene of a man and two ladies playing cards in a domestic interior. The scene is surrounded with painted peacock features and is titled ‘Two to One’.
The table sits upon a particularly fine carved pedestal comprising a central flared column surrounded by three gracefully shaped outer supports terminating in beautifully carved scrolls with original gilt paintwork. Further painted detail around the tricorn plinth, raised on original brass castors.
An exceptional piece of antique furniture in beautiful condition, with fresh baize, otherwise original throughout.
Dimensions width 36″ depth 18″/36″, height 28″. Please contact us for more images, delivery and shipping quotes.
