Label to rear states "W Barker & Co. Alexandra Gallery, Royal Parade, Harrogate. Ernest Crofts RA 1888".

Ernest Crofts was one of the most renowned painters of military subjects of the late Victorian era. He studied and collected military uniforms so his attention to detail was unsurpassed.

His major works included 'Queen Victoria's Funeral' and 'Charles 1st on his way to his execution' (which hung in my families hall when I was a teenager). Items available for viewing in Hereford(UK) by private appointment.
