A really stylish early Victorian salver or tray standing on four exquisite ball and claw feet.

Made from Old Sheffield Plate, the traditional way of incorporating a family or armorial crest into an Old Sheffield Plate piece is by sinking a solid sterling silver ingot into the area to be engraved, this way no base metal (copper) would show through the engraving. You can see a circular shadow to the centre where this was undertaken and the ingot set and engraved with a family crest of two crossed Battle Axes.

The rim has a beaded border followed by a beautiful pierced or reticulated border. The salver is beautifully decorated with engraved and hand-chased work.

It has the crossed keys mark on the underside with the initials T.R.

Dating to around 1840 this very usable piece is in superb condition. 12" in diameter x 1 3/4" tall.
