English Giltwood Overmantel Circa 1840
A very unusual late William IV, early Victorian era overmantel.
All giltwood frame with gilt composition paterae in the upper corners. The decorative work on the vertical and upper horizontal sections is the finest quality papier mache mouldings I have ever seen. Very durable and they have stood the test heat, as well as time. They are oil gided and with their matt finish contrast perfectly with the burnished water gilding on the surface below. This effect is not really evident in photography but in a candlelit room...
The glass is quite thin which may indicate it being of an earlier date, yet having been re-silvered more recently.
It is now spotted in places especially to the base and lower right corner.
50" high x 47.5" wide If this item is not entirely suitable, please do not hesitate to contact us as we have a large store of un-restored items which can be started on if necessary.
All our mirror frames are fully restored using gold leaf and traditional materials.
We have over 30 years experience of gilding and restoration and we are very happy to undertake restoration work of any item, antique picture frame or antique mirror frame of yours that may need repair, re-gilding or indeed, simply cleaning.
If you need advice on the hanging and fixing of mirrors please contact us, we will be happy to help.
