A very handsome example of an expanding book rack or holder, known as a bookslide and dating to around 1860 / 1880, Victorian in era.

The warmth of the rich cognac coloured burr Walnut is enhanced with decorative brass mounts to either end.

The opening for books measures 12 3/4" expanding to 20 1/2" while fully opened.

Excellent condition, the footprint while closed measuring 14 1/4" x 6 1/4",
