Emily Beatrice Bland Exhibited Oil Polyanthus
We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely oil painting on board by the renowned artist Emily Beatrice Bland, who has signed the painting E.B.Bland in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a bowl of polyanthus, primroses, grape hyacinths and flowering currant. The painting bears a label verso showing that this painting was exhibited at the Leicester Galleries, Leicester Square, London in November 1925 and entitled 'Polyanthus and Grape Hyacinths'. There is also a newspaper obituary of the artist verso from 1951.
Emily Beatrice Bland was born in Lincoln in 1864 and studied art at Lincoln School of Art and the Slade School under Henry Tonks and Fred Brown 1892-1892. She had her first solo showing at the Leicester Galleries in 1922 and other solo exhibitions at the Redfern and Arthur Tooth Galleries. She lived in Cheyne Walk, Chelsea in London and died on 20th January, 1951.
She was a prolific painter and exhibited widely, primarily in oils although there were some watercolours and she painted both flowers and landscapes both her and abroad. She exhibited widely and was made a Member of the New English Art Club in 1926. Two of her works, 'Striped Camellias' and 'Yachts at Lymington' were purchased by the Chantry Bequest for the Tate Gallery and the Queen purchased one of her landscapes entitled 'The Orchard' in 1940. There are 23 of her paintings in the National Collection. (See BBC Your Paintings on google).
She exhibited at the RA (1890-1950) 60 paintings and also at the following galleries. Leicester Galleries (272), Goupil Gallery (64), Tooley Gallery (31), BA (9), BG (30), BK (1), CG (1), CHE (5), D (6), FIN (77), G (6), GI (6,) I (10), L (14), NE (108), NG (10), RBA (3), RED (83), RHA (7), RED (70), ROI (2), SWA (18).
Auction results achieved for works by this artist may be found at artprice (113), artnet (110), findartinfo (48) and arcadja (37). The last recorded oil of flowers achieved £1,000 plus Premium at Bonhams in 2013, which was an oil on board 18" x 14".

The painting is newly framed in a 1 7/8" swept gilt frame and is ready to hang.
