A wonderful antique Edwardian adjustable folding back rest by Leveson & Sons of London dating from circa 1910. This versatile bergere caned backrest is ideal for use whilst picnicking in the summer or to offer support whilst reading in bed. In solid stained satin birch it is adjustable to seven different elevations and the foot is also hinged to reduce its depth for use in a confined space. With label for Leveson & Sons.

Leveson and Sons of 90 New Oxford St. and 21 Park Side, Knightsbridge, London were highly regarded cabinet makers trading around 1870-1915. They specialised in furniture with mechanical invention, adjustable reading tables and furniture for the war injured and disabled. Because the furniture was portable and adjustable it was also used by officers during military campaigns.

Good colour and patina. General wear and marks commensurate with age. The caning is in good condition, a few minor splits.
