Edward Tucker Jr. b.1847 Watercolour Friar's Crag
![](http://images.antiquesatlas.com/b_sold.png)
![](http://staticaz.antiquesatlas.com/images/loading_new.gif)
We are offering for sale this lovely subtly toned watercolour landscape by the artist EDWARD TUCKER Jr., who has signed the painting with his pseudonym Edward Arden in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a tranquil Lake District landscape, showing Friar's Crag, Derwentwater. Friar's Crag is reputed to be so named, as it was the promontary from which monks departed to make a pilgrimage to St. Herbert's Island.
EDWARD TUCKER Jr., who was born in Bristol in 1847, was a landscape and coastal painter in watercolour, who was the son of the well known watercolour artist Edward Tucker Sr. (c1925-1909). He lived in Bristol, London, Brighton, Ambleside, ending up in Windermere. He was the brother of Arthur T. RBA 1864-1929, Frederick T. c. 1855-c.1935, Alfred R. T. 1849-1914 and Hubert Coutts T. RI, who died in 1921. All five of the brothers being listed artists. He used the pseudonym Edward Arden to avoid confusion with his father. He died in 1910, the year after his father.
Biographical details for this artist may be found in The Dictionary of British Artists, The Dictionary of Victorian Painters and the Dictionary of British Watercolour Artists by H. Mallalieu, although there is some confusion between the father and son.
We cannot give the details of his exhibitions, although he exhibited from 1870 onwards, as due to the confusion with his father we do not know which exhibits were his.
A multitude of auction results achieved for works by both father and son and may be found at artprice.com, findartinfo.com, artnet.com and arcadja.com although their work is frequently put together just as Edward Tucker.
The painting is newly double mounted in two tone acid-free mountboard and is newly framed in a 1 3/8" bronzed gilt frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
Image size: 14 5/8" x 9 3/4" - 37.15cm x 24.75cm
Frame size: 22 1/4" x 17 5/8" - 56.5cm x 44.75cm
Medium: Watercolours
Condition: Excellent condition with no foxing or fading. The mounts and frame are new.
