Early 20th C Silver Plated Coffee Pot, R. Pringle
Here we have a nice quality early 20th century Silver Plated Coffee Pot. It has a "pumpkin" body on a flat base with a tall neck rising above it and a short spout. The handle and finial are made of bakelite and so remain cool to the touch when the pot has hot contents.
The coffee pot is made by Robert Pringle & Sons in London and dates to between c.1900 to c.1930. There were several generations of Robert Pringles, the original having founded the company in 1835. They became Robert Pringle & Sons in 1899 and remained a family business up until 1931 and the coffee pot dates to this period.
There is a small shallow dent and a couple of tiny dings on one side of the body but other than that condition is good with no plate loss. There is a small amount of tannin staining on the inside, so the pot has clearly been used for making tea for some of its life. This should respond to thorough cleaning. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The coffee pot is of a substantial size, standing 22.5cm / 9" high to the top of the handle. It's 20cm / 7.9" from spout to handle and 10.5cm / 4.1" wide across the body. It weighs 613g / 21.6oz.
The marks on the underside of the base are nice and clear to read. They show the RP mark for Robert Pringle & Sons, the crossed axes trademark they were using at this time, the L for London and EPNS in a shield for electroplated nickel silver, ie silver plate.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Hermes Tracked & Signed Courier.
