We are offering for sale this large oil painting of the Madonna and Child, painted in the Pre-Raphaelite style and having a painted border of orange blossom, leaves and oranges. We would date this painting to the early to mid 20th Century.

The Madonna is seated on a ledge with a carpet like throw over it, which continues on the wall behind her. She is wearing a long blue dress and white robe, tightly fastened around her head and her eyes are closed. There is the most gentle, tranquil expression on her face. She is holding the baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes. There is a wooden stool beneath her feet and some oranges on the ground, echoing the theme of the border.

This is one of a pair of paintings by this, sadly unknown, artist over the next couple of weeks.

As the painting is unsigned, we can offer no biographical information about the artist, but he or she has captured the beauty of the subject very well.

The painting is framed in a 2 1/8" giltwood frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Medium Oils on canvas

Condition Excellent condition with no repairs, craquelure, paint loss or stretcher marks. The frame is in very good condition.
