We are offering for sale this very well executed still life oil on canvas by the 20th Century Croydon artist CONSTANCE M. COOPER. The painting is unsigned, but was purchased with the other two that we are listing. It bears the comment on the back edge of the canvas by the artist, which she frequently did, 'Revarnished NOV 1976'. The painting is a still life of a turquoise and white shell-footed bowl filled with primulas. The bowl is sitting on a highly polished table, with a scarf and pair of gloves next to it.

This is one of three paintings by this artist that we are currently listing.

CONSTANCE M. COOPER 1905-1998 is a twentieth century British artist, who lived in Croydon, Surrey. She studied at Croydon College of Art and was elected to the Society of Women Artists, becoming their Vice President. She was also the President of Croydon Art Society for 22 years. According to their website, she had a business in London employing 23 girls in the design and construction of lampshades for royalty. She was a great supporter of the Scout movement and was largely responsible for the Society raising and donating many thousands of pounds to charities, including the Scouts. At one time she lived at 35 Shirley Park Road, Croydon.

The painting is newly framed in a 2 3/4" gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Condition Excellent. There are no repairs to the canvas, which is clean and taut. There is no craquelure, stretcher marks, or missing paint. The frame is new.
