Comfortable Milled Wool Upholstered Armchair c1910
The generously proportioned deep and roomy carcass newly upholstered in Linwood’s charcoal Lana milled wool with single piping all round, having a fixed feather scrolled back and a loose feather seat cushion with long and broad overhanging arms to tapering dwarf walnut legs to original brass castors, surviving from the late Edwardian period.
The condition of the chair is fantastic, having been fully reupholstered. All of the original horsehair, feathers and innards to the upholstery have been retained. It proves irresistibly comfortable and the frame has been tightened.
This chair’s fixed feather cushion back is unusual and is a sign of a very good maker indeed though we cannot find any stamps. It makes the chair sublimely confortable and the quality of the fabric over it means it can be used daily, (trust us you will want to do so!). This deep and roomy style is club chair-esque and has a hint of Howard & Sons about it but it’s style is essentially its own, with the arms being very broad and being singular entities rather than being part of a rolling frame.
This really is the most comfortable chair we have ever sat in, and it’s easy on the eye too. Fabulous.
