We have great pleasure in being able to offer this lovely oil painting on canvas of Hartley Coleridge's Cottage by the well respected artist William Lakin Turner (1867-1936).

This very well executed oil painting on canvas depicts a Lake District scene of Nab Cottage overlooking Rydal Water on a summers. Nab cottage was home to Thomas Quincey and Hartley Coleridge, son of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The Painting has been re-framed but retains the original backboard upon which is written Bydal Water, Hartley Coleridge Cott. The painting is signed W L Turner in the bottom right hand corner.

This landscape oil painting measures approximately 17 inches by 13 inches (43cm X 33cm) including the frame and is in an excellent condition.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

William Lakin Turner was the son of the well known Derbyshire artist George Turner. William studied under the direction of his father and later at the West London School of Art in Chelsea. He predominantly painted landscape scenes in oil paints of the Lake District and the Scottish highlands. His love of the Lake District led him to become the founding member and secretary of the prestigious Lake Artists Society established in 1904.

William Lakin Turner exhibited at the Royal academy, the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, The Royal Society of Artist in Birmingham and the Nottingham Museum and Art Gallery.
