A charming early 19th century oil on board depicting figures before a country cottage in a highland landscape, signed 'A. Nasmyth' to the lower left.

The work is of small proportions and well painted, with wonderful depth and warmth. There are some areas of light craquelure, predominantly to the lower portion of the work, and there is some darkening of the varnish.

The work is housed in a period gilt frame which has some nibbles to the extremities but generally remains in a good condition.

The work bears a label for 'Gladwell Brothers...Dealers In Fine Art...' verso.
