'Children's Games' Large print after Pieter Bruegel
A wonderful large scale print after the artwork by Flemish Renaissance artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder, painted in 1560.
The original work is well documented on Wikipedia.
The entire composition is full of children playing a wide variety of games. Over 90 different games that were played by children at the time have been identified.
The original painting was acquired in 1594 by Archduke Ernest of Austria. It is now located in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna
This later print dating to circa 1900's offers a wonderful rendition of the fascinating original.
The print is not framed.
The condition does show some wear. There are minor signs of retouching. In my opinion, nothing that detracts.
It is mounted on board with a wooded stretcher verso upon which is a later fitted hanging wire making the picture ready to display.
