Here we have an outstanding Victorian period Welsh Oak armchair c1850. As you can see the chair has wonderful colour and patina. If this chair were English it would almost certainly be made of Mahogany. However being a Welsh chair it is of course beautiful Welsh Oak. The chair is almost certainly made by Philip Wheeler of Narberth. There is a broad top rail with lovely grain. The arms are well shaped and pegged to the finely turned supports. There are carefully selected timbers for the seat as the edge of the tree has been used to give a variation in colour from the sap wood. The seat also has a beautiful decorative thumb moulded edge. The legs are squared and tapered and joined by an H stretcher. A fine rare Welsh Oak armchair in fantastic retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 35 inches high 22 wide and 17.5 deep. The seat height is 18 inches.
