Carved Antique Black Forest Figural Inkwell - Dog

1 of 6
A fabulous desk-top figural inkwell skillfully carved in the form of a dog's head, very well executed to create a very handsome carving.
To the front is a pen tray for a small dip pen and nibs or a desk tidy to collect those stray bits and pieces from the desk-top. What is rather special about this is the detailing to the sides to resemble wicker work.
The underside reveals the plugged hole where the piece of wood would have been screwed onto a support and used to turn while being hand carved, allowing for a fine quality example.
He retains his original two large glass eyes, bringing his lovely face to live. Once opened, the molded glass liner is revealed, removable for easy re-filing and cleaning.
Dating to around 1900, it remains in superb condition. 6 1/4" x 5 1/4" x 3 3/4" tall.
