Brass Inlaid Mahogany Barograph . Darton , London barograph Mahogany %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a lovely Mahogany cased barometer by F Darton and Co 142 St Johns Street , London circa 1910 with the mechanism of grained and lacquered brass construction with a first quality 8 day duration drum recorder with compensated balance on platform escapement which is mounted on a conventional base of conical form with static gear bearing the same serial number . It has a captive winding key and top cover.
The mechanism is set on a conventional chassis bearing a manufacturers plate with fluted border and raised on four turned pillars and having a sixen capsule set with adjustment wheel over , grained white metal recorder arm with tension adjustment. The base mounted arrester bar set between stop pins. The recording range is 28 -31 inches of mercury.
It is contained in polished mahogany case which is inlaid with organic shapes in brass and Ebony which has boxwood stringing to the edges. It has an excellent original polish and finishh. The base with a double chart door and several paper charts . The cover of heavy bevelled five glass design reflecting the period of neo classical design
As can be seen from the images this is very handsome instrument and being made from mahogany with a decorative case it would suggest it was made for a domestic rather than industrial setting. The instrument looks much nicer in the flesh than my photographs suggest .It is in perfect working order but the antique clock work will be professionally serviced by a member of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and sold with 12 months guarantee at the full asking price.
The original gilding is present .It is 16 1/2 inches wide ,11 inches tall and 9 1/2 inches deep
The overall condition is excellent and original but like all items over 100 years there are the odd marks as expected
At the full asking price I will deliver / ship the item free of charge in England Wales and the Scottish lowlands . A full 12 months guarantee will be provided under these circumstances
If a lesser offer is accepted it will be considered a trade sale with shipping / collection the responsibility of the buyer
I will ship this instrument worldwide
