Decorative and useful antique brass desk top magnifier and paperweight c1900. Cylindrical brass housing containing two large convex lenses with convex faces to inside. Originally would have been part of the sight magnification for an instrument such as a marine compass or similar. Lenses from these were often re-purposed. This magnifier turned into an unusual but useful desk top accessory. Brass cylinder has been cleaned but not polished - retaining its antique patina and aspect. The magnifier measures 5 cm in height. Lens diameter is 10 cm.
This magnifier is in excellent good condition commensurate with age. Brass housing has age related wear and patina. Very minor surface scratch to each lens which is not visible when viewing through the magnifier. Please see images as these form an important part of the description. Viewing by appointment only.
