Arts & Crafts Silver Plate 2 Pt Hot Water Jug

This is a charming Arts & Crafts Silver Plate "Windermere Can" Hot Water Jug. The jug has a spherical shape with pronounced vertical and horizontal ribs and a flate base. The lid is deep with a notch cut out for pouring the hot water and can be turned to prevent spills. The handle is cane wrapped for ease of handling when the contents are hot.
The jug was made in Cumbria by T.H. Winder & Co and dates to around the 1880s to 1900s. T.H. Winder & Co were based in the Lake District in the town of Windermere. Active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries they produced high quality silver plate tableware, most notably kettles, teapots and hot water jugs and espoused the Arts & Crafts philosophy and style.
Condition is good, with no dings or dents, minimal plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. The cane wrapped handle is in good condition. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The jug has a capacity of 1,136ml / 2 pints. It is 15.2cm / 6ins from lip to handle, 11.1cm / 4.4ins across and 16.5cm / 6.5ins high. It weighs 479.3g / 16.9oz.
The underside of the base is stamped EPNS for Silver Plate, The Windermere Can, makers T.H. Winder & Co, Windermere to identify it and 2 Pt to show the capacity.
