An interesting Scottish Arts & Crafts strip woven carpet supplied by Pettigrew & Stephens to the McLellan Galleries measuring 532 cm x 402 in worn condition.
Pettigrew & Stephens were a Glasgow department store, elements of the building having been designed by C R Mackintosh. The McLellan Galleries housed the Glasgow School of Art between 1869 and 1899 before they moved to their new Mackintosh designed building.
It is likely that the carpet was supplied to the McLellan Galleries after the building became vacant when the Art School left in 1899.
