Art Deco Silver Plated Cocktail Shaker, c.1920/30s
This is a very good quality large Art Deco Silver Plated Cocktail Shaker. Cocktails are intimately entangled with the hedonistic lifestyle of the 1920s \"jazz age\" as people sought to put the horrors of World War One behind them. This cocktail shaker is a substantial 1.5pt size with a deep conical strainer, a milled rim around the large lid and a rolled rim around the cap.
The cocktail shaker is made by renowned by silversmiths and electroplaters James Dixon & Sons Ltd and dates to around the 1920s/30s. With a history going back to the early 1800s, James Dixon & Sons were a hugely successful company throughout the 19th and early 20th century but began to struggle after World War Two and finally closed in the early 1980s.
Condition is good with just a couple of small dings in the main body of the shaker where someone has clearly been a little overenthusiastic in mixing their cocktails and some surface scratching around the cap. There is no plate loss. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cocktail shaker has a 1.5pt capacity and stands 20.7cm / 8.25ins high. It weighs 464.7g / 16.39oz.
The marks on the base show the EP mark for electroplate, the JD&S and the famous \"tumpet & banner\" marks for James Dixon & Sons Ltd, \"Made In England\" and the L2972 product number and the 11/2PT stamp for 1.5pt size.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Hermes Tracked & Signed Courier Service.
