A superb and rare Art Nouveau solid silver cicada brooch by French jeweller Camille Colot C1905

The insect has been nicely sculpted with excellent detail. Its wings are folded back and legs tucked in.
Cicadas are a symbol of longevity. This and rebirth are the most common themes associated with the musical cicada.
The piece is signed which you can clearly see engraved into the bottom of a wing along with a diamond shape symbol.

Tests for solid silver.

CAMILLE COLOT exibited regulary at the exhibited at the Paris salons, including La Société des Artistes Français. You can see some examples of his work on page 159 of Volume I of Alastair Duncan's book The Paris Salons, 1895-1914: Jewellery.

This highly collectible and rare piece is offered in very good condition.
