This is an Art Deco Perpetual Calendar and Pen Rest made from Xylonite, an early form of celluloid plastic. The calendar has a rectangular base with the pen rest at the front and the calendar holder at the back which is formed as a typical Deco skyline design. The calendar cards have three sets, one for days of the week, one for months and one for dates, all of which are complete.

The calendar was made by the British Xylonite Company under their BEX Moulding trademark and dates to the 1930s. The company was founded by Daniel Spill, the co-inventor of Xylonite, in 1877 with the BX Plastics being formed as a division in the early 1930s and registering the BEX Moulding trademark.

Condition is very good with no damage to the stand. A few of the days have faded a little but all are still clearly readable. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The base of the stand is 7.5cm / 2.9ins by 4.4cm / 1.7ins and it is 6.7cm / 2.6ins high. It weighs 60.3g / 2.1oz.

The underside of the base is stamped A BEX Moulding - Made in England.
