Style: Mid Century / Art Deco.
A large and striking floral still life.
Set against a background of deep shadow and muted light (a window or open doorway perhaps) this is a boldly painted study with a strong palette of brown and orange
Frank Owen Salisbury was an English Artist whose reputation for fine portraits notably of the Royal family and Politicians led to him being known as “Britain’s Painter Laureate”. Twenty-five members of the Royal House of Windsor sat for Salisbury and he was the first artist to paint HM Queen Elizabeth II. He also painted Winston Churchill several times and President Roosevelt.
In his early years Salisbury was an apprentice in a glass factory and learned all the skills of stained glass design, painting and manufacture.
His passion for stained glass was retained throughout his life and stylistically is evidenced here I think in the strong well defined segments of colour of this still life.
Dimensions: Height framed 35.25 inches, width 30 inches.
Condition - Very good. Has had a light professional clean.
