Arched Silver Plated Toast Rack & Crumb Tray

A very striking 6 slice silver plated toast rack with attached crumb tray.
The toast rack has a high arched design on an oval base, whilst the crumb tray has scroll ends and stands on four grooved feet. The crumb tray can be removed for cleaning as required.
The toast rack was made by William Hutton & Sons Ltd, a well established firm of silversmiths and platers in Sheffield. It bears both the WH & S mark and the crossed arrows mark, which dates it to after 1902. The company ceased trading in 1930 when it was taken over by James Dixon & Sons. Stylistically it suggests that it was made before the First World War, although it could have been shortly after.
The toast rack and tray are in overall good condition with no plate loss and just a few spots on the crumb tray that have been acquired during 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
It is a good size with wide slots, which are suitable for modern thick sliced bread. It is 26.5cm wide, 9.2cm deep and 12.2cm tall at its highest point. It weighs 315g.
