This is an antique trumpet shaped games table. An English, walnut chess board or sewing table, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1890.

Octagonal hinged top with inlaid chess board and broad foliate motif
The chess board crafted in walnut and contrasting satin wood
Wonderfully figured apron dressed with an inset brass-lined lock — key absent
Appealing tapered body narrows dramatically to the decorative carved support stand

The interior presents a suite of storage compartments around a deep central cubby
Striking red fabric lids dressed with small brass pulls
Hand-written personal message within the interior dating to 1905
Raised upon a trio of broad cabriole legs with a drop pendant finial to the centre
