Antique silver Rotherhams pocket watch and chain
Antique silver Rotherhams pocket watch and chain.
The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name of the original retailer, F E Bowden & Sons Plymouth. Frederick Edmund Bowden ran the business after his father bought it for him from a Mr Jabez Shepheard in 1869. In 1901 two of his sons, Arthur and Sydney, joined the firm.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has general light marking.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the Birmingham 1907 with a maker’s mark for the Coventry watch maker John Rotherham of Rotherham & Sons. The case is in lovely condition, as is the later acrylic lens.
The dial is signed with the Bowden name. It is in very nice condition with original blued steel pin set hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
The watch comes with a silver double albert and fob. The T-bar and one of the fobs is stamped SS for sterling silver, with the other clasp having a date letter for 1892. Silver marks are visible on some of the links. There is also a silver fob, hallmarked for 1909.
The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
