Antique English silver chrono hunter pocket watch
Antique English silver centre seconds half hunter pocket watch.
The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. This is a good quality movement with screw set jewels and a Breguet hairspring. The movement is signed with the name E J Bailey, 4 The Exchange, Upper Tulse Hill, SW, probably the original retailer of the watch.
The movement is protected by an inner which has a little unevenness but nothing too serious.
The watch measures 57mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver with rose gold features, and there are hallmarks inside the two outer covers for Chester 1897 with a maker’s mark for Charles Errington. The inner cover was replaced in 1907 and is hallmarked accordingly with a maker’s mark for the London silversmith Alan Oliver.
Charles Errington often made private label pieces such as this to be sold with the retailer’s details.
The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover. Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.
The dial is in lovely condition with original pin-set gold hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed. There is an original blued steel chronograph hand which is operated by sliding the gold button to the side of the case… this sliding button is tight to slide, and most users would leave it running as when the chronograph is stopped, the movement stops too (this was how the watch was designed).
The watch comes in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
