Antique Silver Plate Wine Cooler, Boardman - Glossop

BOTTLE FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY
This is a good quality Late 19th / Early 20th Century Silver Plate Wine Cooler. The cooler is in the neo-classical style with a reeded bulbous body, two sculpted handles, a wide neck with a gadrooned top rim and a part reeded round base. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The wine cooler is made Boardman & Glossop in Sheffield and dates to between around 1880 and 1920, probably towards the earlier part of that period. Initially founded by Charles Boardman as silversmiths in 1844, by 1850 they had almost entirely switched to electroplating. A.O. Glossop joined the firm as partner around 1860 and they became Boardman, Glossop & Co in 1887. They manufactured in Sheffield and had a showroom in London's Holborn district. The business was finally bought out in 1924 by Frank Cobb & Co.
Condition is very good, with just the superficial wear that you would expect after over 100 years of good service. There is no significant plate loss to the outside or to the inside of the neck, just to the inside of the lower body which is inevitable when it is frequently filled with ice over many years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The wine cooler is 17.5cm / 6.9ins high and 17.2cm / 6.8ins wide. It is ideal for any normal white / rose / sparkling wine bottle. The cooler weighs in at 676g / 23.8oz.
The underside of the bases is stamped with EPBM for silver plate and the B & G over S in a shield makers' mark for Boardman & Glossop of Sheffield.
Shipping in the UK in £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the wine cooler.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
