Antique silver full hunter pocket watch, Dewsbury
Antique silver full hunter pocket watch, Dewsbury.
The watch has a stem winding movement by the Coventry watch maker Charles Hutton Errington. Errington initially trained as an engraver but went on to became one of the most successful Coventry based watch manufacturers with many patents registered in his name. The movement is working and it is signed with the name of the original retailer of the watch, W T Story, Dewsbury, Barrow & Halifax.
W T Story opened his first shop in Dalton Road on 29 September 1882 under the management of Frederic Diss. By 1922 Frederic owned the company and in that year he also founded F Diss & Sons of Dewsbury.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the three covers for Chester 1897 with the maker's mark for Charles Hutton Errington. The case is in good condition, just minor surface marks but nothing serious at all.
The windng stem pushes in to release the front cover. Inside there is a glass lens which is in good condition. The dial is signed with the name W T Story together with the number 7599 which is the same number on the movement and inside the case back. The dial has a short hairline at number 5 and slight patchy discolouration. Pin-set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
