Antique silver Errington pocket watch, 1893
Antique silver Errington private label pocket watch, 1893, with silver single albert and fob.
The watch has a stem-winding ¾ plate movement which is working nicely. The watch was made by the Errington Watch Company on behalf of the jeweller D MacMillan of Dingwall, and both the movement and the dial are signed with the MacMillan name. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for Birmingham 1893, together with a maker's mark for Charles Huton Errington of the Errington Watch Company.
The Errington Watch Company was established in Coventry in the 1880s and Errington's aim was to compete with Swiss imports. The company was taken over by Henry Williamson just two years after this particular watch was produced. However, Errington remained at the company, in the role of Manager, until he retired in 1910, and he was regarded as one of the most successful Coventry based manufacturers of watches.
The case is in good condition with just light surface marks, nothing too detrimental at all.
The watch glass has some minor nibbling around the edge but overall is in a very acceptable condition.
The signed dial has a short hairline through number 7 but it is quite faint. Pin-set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch comes on a single albert which measures 31cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. There is also a Clay Cross Winners fob.
The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
