Antique silver Ehrhardt pocket watch & chain
Antique silver Ehrhardt pocket watch & chain.
The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is by William Ehrhardt and is signed with the name of the retailer G A Baker, Gloucester.
The movement is protected by an inner cover which is beautifully engraved with the wording, ‘Presented to W E Harris by the Foreman and Employees on his leaving Atlas Works, Gloucester, Sep 1897’. Atlas Works was an engineering company in Gloucester Quays.
The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both case backs for Birmingham 1894 with the sponsor’s mark for William Ehrhardt. Overall, the case is in good condition with just the odd small surface mark. Originally there would have been engine turned detail to the back of the watch but most of this has worn down over the years.
The main face of the watch glass is in good condition. There is a little nibbling and marking to the bevelled edge but nothing too serious at all.
The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer of the watch, G A Baker of Gloucester who are still trading today. The dial looks good to the naked eye, if viewed through a magnifying loupe then a very faint hairline is just about visible. Pin-set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
The watch comes with a single silver chain, 38cm long. Hallmarked on the T-bar for 1899. Each of the links has the lion silver mark. The clasp is hallmarked but difficult to read. Total weight of the chain is 42g.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
