Antique silver Jas Wadsworth pocket watch & chain

Antique silver James Wadsworth pocket watch & chain.
The watch has a good quality 15 jewel, stem-winding pocket watch which is working nicely. The movement is unsigned but has been identified as a Cyma calibre number 949. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover .
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the back covers for Birmingham 1902 together with a case maker’s mark for Aaron Dennison. The Dennison Watch Case Company was a prolific manufacturer of cases, and supplier to various watch makers.
The case has patches of unevenness to the sides and hinged case back.
The case and movement have been put together at some stage, they are not original to each other, although from the same period.
The acrylic lens is in good condition.
The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, James Wadsworth, Manchester. It is in good condition with original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
The watch comes with a Victorian silver albert with collection of fobs.
The chain came to us from a private collection, exactly as it is here, with various fobs collected over the years.
The T-bar is hallmarked for 1889 with a maker’s mark for the Birmingham silversmith H W Ashford & Co. Each of the links on the chain are hallmarked although some have worn over the years.
Over the years, the former owner of the chain has added various accoutrements including two tassels, a double sided compass (the lenses have a lot of grazing), a 1900 silver Isle of Man fob, an 1841 two annas Indian coin, a George III 1762 threepence coin, a small purse (probably from a charm bracelet) and a Victorian fob with a lion standing on a drum.
The chain measures 38cm long, and weighs 77g.
The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
