A stunning Victorian papier mache lacquered visiting card case. Beautifully inland with abolone and mother of pearl with hand painted gilt decoration. In antique condition, the hinge and catch are in good working order.

A popular custom during Victorian times was the use of calling cards. These were presented to the servants of upper class families when one wished to announce themselves to the master or mistress of the house. Elaborate cases like this one were designed to hold these cards
